Yoga Retreat in Thailand with Bendy Les

18th - 28th December, 2008
£620 (10 days)
The Venue
Jungle Yoga Retreat is on a remote, beautiful lake in a national park with floating bamboo bungalows for accommodation. It's an extraordinary location surrounded by a prehistoric jungle and giant limestone mountains. And we had to be there to believe it, but being on the lake does mean there are NO mosquitos or flies and it keeps the temperature nice and cool.!
With its spectacular views and magical setting, the Jungle Yoga Retreat lies in the midst of a national park, yet only a few hours away from Krabi or Surathani airports.
Conveniently located in the middle of nowhere, this beautiful and peaceful, natural environment, with it’s pristine lake and amazing vistas offer an ideal place for spiritual practice and relaxation. A world away from everyday life, here is the opportunity to restore both your physical and mental balance in the most magical of settings.
The Yoga
We will practice yoga on the large floating yoga shala, which can be taken into remote bays, the middle of the lake or moored by the bungalows.
There will be 5 hours of yoga each day in 2 sessions, in the morning and the afternoon. This includes some meditation as well as pranayama. In addition to the yoga there will be yoga philosophy and discussion in the afternoons led by Fredrique, and expert Yogic verses and Sanskrit and more..
This will be an opportunity to refine your practise and get into asanas that would otherwise take a year to do in a class!
Other Activities
There are kayaks for everybody for exploration of the lake, pristine water for swimming and entertainment provided by nature and starlight. The Sanctuary wildlife includes gibbon apes, langurs, giant hornbills, serpent eagles and lots of other rare birds and animals which can all be observed by sitting on the deck or by taking a kayak into the lake and small canals.
3 delicious Thai meals are served, consisting mostly of fresh fish from the lake, brown rice and fresh vegetables and fruit. We can also cater for vegetarians if you let us know in advance. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and fruit and snacks are also available throughout the day. The food is fantastic!
A certified Thai Massage Therapist (she is brilliant!) will be on site and this is one of the only things for which is extra - everything else is included. Cost for massage is 600 baht per hour (approx. £9).
There is no electricity so lighting in the evening is provided by kerosene lanterns adding to the lovely ambience. The moon and stars are so bright that night swimming and kayaking is a frequent activity!
You can swim and relax in the sunshine kayaks (there are enough double kayaks for all to share) and explore the jungle and listen to the sounds.
There is a lot to do (or not do) in a very beautiful place.

Paradise is the word most often used to describe this unique, mountain-ringed lakeside oasis in the heart of Sri Lanka.
Ulpotha has been a pilgrimage site for thousands of years and remains an oasis of tranquillity. Now Ulpotha is a self-sustaining, bio-diverse organic farm that takes 18-24 guests. Spiritual and ageless cultural customs are respected, but Ulpotha has a warm, easy-going house party vibe that attracts an interesting mix of people in the arts, media and professions, many of whom come alone. It's a beautiful place of extraordinary tranquillity, and luxurious simplicity and style, enhanced by the warm, generous and gentle hospitality of the Sri Lankan people.
Staying at Ulpotha:
At Ulpotha you live close to nature in simple, beautiful, one-bedroom adobe houses dotted among the flowers and fruit trees of this 22 acre organic farm. You wake up to birdsong, swim in a lake half-smothered in tiny water lilies, and lounge on cushions to eat delicious, healthy home-grown organic curries and sambals. It is almost entirely vegan, naturally wheat free, with an abundance of fresh vegetables, organic red rice and tropical fruit freshly picked from Ulpotha's gardens. It's a great opportunity to detoxify with great tasting food!
There are forest paths, secluded spots with meditation huts and hammocks and swings all around the lake, exotic wildlife, ancient reservoirs, traditional village life, and a nearby mountainside monastery.
Cost for Bendy Les retreat
The cost for the retreat is £650 per person per week. Ulpotha encourages guests to stay for the full two weeks, but if you can only come for one we'd be happy to have you. This includes accommodation in the beautiful eco-huts, 2 yoga sessions per day, all delicious meals, snacks and teas, and one massage treatment per week by great body therapists!
Cost does not include flights, travel insurance or transfers from/to airport, or excursions. Ulpotha will arrange the airport pick-ups and drop-offs.
