An Iyengar workshop is a great way to start out to get to know what Iyengar yoga is all about.

There are many great teachers in the Iyenagr style in the yoga world and the Iyengar Institute, founded by BKS iyengar offers training for those that wish to a certified Iyengar yoga teacher.

Most yoga courses for certified teaching are lengthy. This is for a good reason. If one is to teach Yoga to individuals and classes it is helpful and essential to know what you are doing. Many of the postures are complex in their effects and knowing precisely what goes on when adopting a yoga posture is where Iyengar yoga excels.
In a typical Iyengar workshop each posture is broken down into its constituant parts so that the yoga student begins to appreciate the precision and effects that take place.

Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar has masterminded the techniques which can be used by all practitioners of yoga. The use of props belts and wooden supports are a trademark of the style are often seen as the Iyengar trademark, though they are in no way exclusive to this style of yoga.

To find a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher, it is advisable to make sure that they have taken the Iyengar yoga certification courses and training.

To familiarise yourself with Iyengar yoga it is a good idea to get hold of a DVD Yoga Iyengar style to watch and learn from, to see if it feels like your kind of yoga style.

Yoga for pregnancy Iyengar style has an excellent DVD for all those during pregnancy. Yoga is very beneficial during pregnancy however a much more cautionary approach is needed. Ruth White's Yoga for Pregnancy is a great example of an Iyengar Teacher Yoga presentation for pregnancy.

BKS Iyengar has written an excellent Iyengar yoga book books uk sourced here will have them. One of them, his Iyengar book Light on Yoga is a classic. Light on Yoga Iyengar wrote to really comprehensibly cover the whole Iyengar style and it also covers iyengar meditation techniques and approaches.
