The first thing one might be tempted to think of when considering a yoga holidays in France is....the food and le Vin. Yogic? Who cares, it is part of the culture.
Well, that may be a bit revolutionary for those abstemious yogis that feel alchohol is just not up their dosha, but in moderation it complements the hugely good time a yoga holiday in France gives you.
So who does and where?

The Cathar country is a magical place. Ever been to Montsegur? The Holy Blood and Holy Grail territory is steaming with hair-on- your-arms-raising experiences.
Near Foix, itself a magic place, (Go check out the cathedral - the organist let me play Brubeck on his organ some years ago - wow, what a gas.) Anyway, there is a great retreat yoga centre, Domaine de la Gausse, in a beautiful valley in the Pyrennes. You can find from May to October daily yoga classes, meditation and self catering.
The Ariege countryside is full of prehistory and some of the oldest caves in the world with art to see - bison, spears and hunting. I visited some of these and was amazed at the creativity they had back in 9000BC but did not see the yoga postures from Magdalenian man. So Egypt still holds the record for the first recorded pictures of asanas in their hieroglyphs.
 Another hugely accomplished yoga teacher, Nawajyoti runs not only yoga retreats in France, but also runs a yoga holiday in France for all comers. Her training is Ashtanga based and the yoga of Satyananda. She is based in the southern most part of the Lot region. This beautiful centre also welcomes teachers hiring the space.
